Now what?

You’ve envisioned the event, the proposal is now behind you, and you’re wanting to start the planning process, but need the extra push…keep reading :)

The beauty we hope to offer within AEC is that we as planners specialize in all event types; that in mind, wedding or not, these same rules apply. I hope they help!

Where, how and what to begin with, the million dollar & not to mention overwhelming question.

For a start, when or what time of year suits your preferences? For myself as bride, I always dreamed of a warm Florida wedding, sometime in the spring with as minimal humidity as possible & perhaps the beach in the near distance as we shared our vows. And let me tell ya, it’s so funny how dreams can change depending on when you’re engaged, where you live, and how quick you want to plan. For us, we preferred a short engagement, and for me, I couldn’t imagine planning a wedding in a state I no longer lived. So, we cozied up in snowy November and were married thirty minutes from the home we now live in. My version of pure bliss. All this to say, is it more important for you to extend your engagement to be married in a certain month or season (unlike us,) to save up money for a far off wedding or event date, or perhaps you have a time frame in mind you want to spend planning and don’t see it happening in any time sooner than x amount of months. Regardless, having that end goal in mind is crucial for any step to follow. Know the when!

Also, know the tech musts, starting with a wedding website & email, I beg you. If your personal email is anything like mine, there is plenty of spam, distracting messages unread, and overall clutter from just a days log in the inbox. To avoid navigating through the weeds of that, create an email strictly for all wedding based inquiries & conversations, perhaps inspired by you and your spouses names/hashtags/etc. (ours was soontobesounart). Once done, consider which platform for your wedding website (Zola, the knot, minted); here you’ll upload all of the information related to the day, weekend, registry, hotel blocks, and most importantly rsvps. Electronic is the tried and true way of not only you staying on top of number tracking and addresses, but also your guests to have a home base for information versus needing to reach out to you directly.

Next on the list and last for now, craft a mood board of sorts, then begin the search. Begin to dream up the color scheme, overall vibe you envision, how many people you want there, flowers, bridal party, dj or live band, all the things. It’s helpful to have some of the ground work set before jumping feet first into the process of that first email to a venue or vendor. Then, go for it. Set up tours, research venues in your price range (more on that in another blog soon), and if you’re in need of an extra hand, we’re here too. So set the day, make the email, and start the search. One baby step at a time. We’re rooting for you!!
